Membership of ILM not only demonstrates your experience and competence in management and leadership, it is also a clear sign of your commitment to further professional development. There are several different grades of ILM membership and as you develop your skills and experience over the course of your career you are able to ‘upgrade’ to the higher membership grades to reflect this progression.
Fellow
The Fellowship grade recognises that an individual has advanced qualifications and substantial experience at a senior level in the field of leadership and management. This grade is achieved by fewer than 5% of the Institute's total membership, giving you a distinct advantage with prospective employers or clients.

Companion
The grade of Companion is awarded to those who have made a significant contribution to the work of the Institute or to the advancement of leadership and/or management in the workplace or the community. As ILM’s highest accolade, Companionship is awarded exclusively by invitation from the ILM Board.
