Having an Award, a Certificate and a Diploma at each level is confusing – why has this been done?
This simply aligns the qualification titling conventions with those used for many years by several other awarding bodies, and also fits with conventions being adopted throughout the UK by all awarding bodies to meet the structure of the emerging credit frameworks. These titles are used to indicate the relative sizes of qualifications, not the level of difficulty. It may take a little getting used to, but in the end will simplify things for learners and employers

What is the relationship between the qualification level and the terms ‘Award, Certificate and Diploma’?
There is no relationship between the qualification level and any of these three terms. Award, Certificate or Diploma denotes only the relative size of a qualification or the amount of learning to be undertaken. Level refers to the complexity of the qualification, and an Award, or a Certificate or a Diploma could be available at any level
