This suggests the classic failure of management to prepare managers for newer, more responsible roles. All the admirable qualities used to describe this staff member do not imply good staff management. However, we are where we are so what do we do? The best form of “instant” management training if we are up against time constraints (as we will be here) is to find a good mentor to help boost the new manager’s self-esteem and to give them good, hard practical advice.
