Assessment routes
Our approved centres have access to two different types of assessment for VRQs:
Centre assessment (formerly independent assessment) will suit centres that are capable of assessing learner’s work in-house. This requires minimum involvement from ILM (basic sampling and quality procedures) which is reflected in the lower qualification fees for the centre.
ILM-assessed components (formerly external assessment) is where we assess key components of the qualification, lightening the burden for centres and further enhancing the credibility of the qualifications. ILM-assessed components are available for our Level 2-5 Team Leading and Management VRQs.
ILM Assessment service (ILMA) is an extension to the ILM assessed components and provides whole-qualification assessment for our popular VRQs. Read more
Assessment for ILM S/NVQ qualifications is about demonstrating competence through gathering day-to-day evidence and matching it to national occupational standards, normally through a portfolio of evidence and a professional discussion.
Whatever the qualification, you can be sure that ILM offers a flexible and highly relevant assessment to suit your needs.
About candidate registration fees
We offer a number of different payment routes for our qualifications:
Full payment route (FPR) means you are paying for the qualification in full as opposed to paying for each unit individually
Top up payment route (TPR) is a reduced fee reflecting prior learning with ILM and can be used when a candidate has successfully completed an Award or Certificate in a particular subject and level, and is choosing to ‘top up’ their learning to complete a larger qualification at the same level. For example, a learner with the ILM Level 2 Award in Team Leading can top up their learning to complete the ILM level 2 Certificate in Team Leading.
The unit payment route (UPR) is designed for learners who wish to complete one or more units of a qualification and make individual payments as opposed to making a single payment for the full qualification from the outset. Further guidance on calculating the total cost of a qualification using the unit payment route is available in our guide to fees.
