32 delegates complete the ILM Level 2 Certificate in Team Leading at BAPCO
10 February 2012
During January 32 delegates completed the Level 2 ILM Certificate in Team Leading programme run by the Management and Career Development Team at Bapco.
After a briefing held with their Superintendent explaining how much work the course entailed the delegates attended six two-day workshops in the refinery training centre to learn and practise new skills identified as key to the future of Bapco.
Course activities included DVDs on Time Management and Motivation as well as case studies and management exercises requiring the use of all the skills learnt on the programme. The delegates then had to reflect on what they had learnt and apply it to their jobs. In addition to the written assignments after each day's training they had to design and deliver a 15 minute on job training session, observed by Senior Management Development Specialist Neil Porter.
Their final task was to present as a team what they had learnt and how they had applied it back at work to their Superintendents and invited guests.
One delegate from each of the three groups completing the programme explained how they benefited from the course:
Senior Systems Support Engineer Ahmed Al Sayed from group 5 said, "The prime beauty of the ILM programme is that it provides you with various effective tools that can be immediately applied at your workplace. You will be delightfully amazed by the outcome of using those techniques in terms of your overall work productivity and efficiency."
IT Technical Support Specialist Khalid Abdulla from group 6 said, "The ILM course made me a better leader. The course inspired me to regain control of my time when dealing with daily tasks. It made me a better coach when it comes to assigning tasks for my colleagues. I recommend the ILM course for all Bapco employees."
Ameena Meamari from group 7 said: "ILM is different than any other courses I've attended ever! The way it links theory with real world problems is amazing. With ILM, I discovered my hidden leadership skills and got a clear view of what is my strength and weak points that I need to overcome."
Mr Porter commented, "In our first year running the programme only 70% stayed on the course until the last day and an even smaller percentage completed the assignments to get their certificates from ILM. This is a challenging course and I am delighted that these delegates all made it to the end. I look forward to marking their final assessments and awarding their certificates once the work has been verified by ILM. Their final presentations were highly professional and they made some excellent suggestions for improving the course. The biggest benefit to Bapco was that each group was able to give several examples of how they had applied the skills learnt on the course back at work."
